After working with AURI (Agricultural Utilization Resource Institute) to test out different types of inputs, like corn stover, bean straw, and prairie grasses, we ran the first pellets through the mills Fall 2008, and by March 2009 we were using 100% pellets to heat our greenhouse.

The process starts with grinding up the raw inputs and then flows through several different machines including being pushed through the pellet mill to form pellets (below), until finally deposited into a storage area (see video).

We've found that a blend of materials, particularly prairie grasses and bean straw works better than straight corn stover.  We are not equipped to make straight wood pellets, and besides this would be more costly than our grass pellets.  The pellets work great for customers with burners that are used to burning corn and it is MUCH less expensive than corn to purchase.

Currently we are selling in bulk and priced by the ton.  If you have product you'd like to bring to have made into pellets, we can work with you on the feasibility and pricing.  We recommend getting a sample prior to purchase, so that you can make sure how they will work, call 507-689-2678.
